Friends, Colleagues, and Baby Boomers:
The Oil and Gas industry has been in turmoil for more than two years, resulting in over 440,000 jobs lost worldwide. Perhaps you are one of those valuable professionals whose careers were truncated by this severe downturn, or you have many friends and colleagues who have been let go and are struggling to find a job in industry.
This crisis is compounded for those of us baby boomers who are in our late careers or nearing retirement, but who are not ready to make this transition. We always had a backup plan within industry, even during previous downturns. This is no longer the case, and our options are limited to non-existent.
Or, are they really? I beg to differ…
Many of you know that I have always been a ‘Plan B’ person – always preparing myself for the next opportunity out there. A couple of years ago, as our industry was getting hit heavily with layoffs, I had a bicycling accident that ‘forced’ me to tap deeply into my inner purpose and to come up with an entirely different Plan B – one that does not involve my lifelong career.
This Plan B is the reason I am connecting with you today, as I want you to be part of the launching of my new life adventure and passion, New Shores Coaching.
I am not the only one who has ‘reinvented’ himself or herself as a result of this downturn.I did not wait for the ax to fall, as I had too much to lose if it caught me unprepared. Several of my colleagues have launched successful new careers or businesses. Some of them, like me, are doing this part-time while maintaining their full-time jobs, because they know that the clock is ticking….
There is hope my dear friends. We are bunch of highly talented and educated professionals. We are much better than this industry that has served us so well, but that now is in shambles…
For us, the Sun is rising, not setting!
